1. Who operates the site

Wait, What? is operated by Honest Abe Marketing LLC (“Honest Abe Marketing,” “we,” “us,” or “our”). Company information and other services are described at https://honestabemarketing.com.

2. The service

Wait, What? offers history stories, videos (including embeds), reading pieces, and hands-on activities for entertainment and everyday curiosity. Some pages are still filling in, so you may see teasers next to finished pieces.

3. Eligibility and accounts

You may use the site if you can form a binding contract under applicable law, or if a parent/guardian supervises your use. We do not currently require user accounts. If accounts are added later, additional terms may apply.

4. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

• Use the site for unlawful, harmful, fraudulent, or abusive purposes
• Attempt to probe, scan, reverse engineer, or disrupt the site, its hosts, or other users
• Scrape or harvest content or data in bulk except as allowed by robots rules or our written permission
• Interfere with security, rate limits, or consent/preference tools
• Misrepresent affiliation with Wait, What? or Honest Abe Marketing LLC
• Upload malware or attempt unauthorized access to systems or data

5. Intellectual property

Unless otherwise noted, the Wait, What? name, branding, site design, original text, graphics, and interactive experiences are owned by Honest Abe Marketing LLC or its licensors and are protected by intellectual property laws. You may view and use the site for personal, non-commercial learning. You may not copy, republish, or commercially exploit substantial portions without permission, except for brief quotations with attribution for non-commercial commentary or education, or as allowed by fair use / fair dealing.

Third-party trademarks (including YouTube, Google, museum names, and source publications) remain the property of their owners. Historical sources linked from stories remain under their own licenses and terms.

6. User submissions

If you send feedback, corrections, or ideas to us, you grant Honest Abe Marketing LLC a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to use that feedback to operate and improve the site and related projects, without obligation to you. Do not send confidential information you are not allowed to share.

7. Third-party services and links

The site may embed or link to third-party services (including YouTube/Google and external reference sites). Those services are governed by their own terms and privacy policies. We are not responsible for third-party content, availability, or practices. Playing an embedded video may load third-party code and cookies.

8. Advertising and measurement

The site may display advertising and use analytics or ad measurement tools. Your choices for non-essential cookies and “sale/share” opt-outs are described in the Privacy Policy, Cookie & Tracking Notice, and Your Privacy Choices.

9. Educational disclaimer

Stories, activities, and source notes are for general curiosity and learning. They are not academic accreditation, professional advice, or a complete scholarly record. THE SITE IS PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE.” TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, HONEST ABE MARKETING LLC DISCLAIMS ALL WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. We do not warrant that the site will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of harmful components.

11. Limitation of liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, HONEST ABE MARKETING LLC AND ITS OFFICERS, MEMBERS, EMPLOYEES, AND AGENTS WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, EXEMPLARY, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, OR GOODWILL, ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF THE SITE. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM RELATING TO THE SITE WILL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF (A) THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US TO USE THE SITE IN THE TWELVE MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM (IF ANY) OR (B) ONE HUNDRED U.S. DOLLARS (US $100).

Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations; in those cases, our liability is limited to the fullest extent permitted.

12. Indemnity

You agree to defend and indemnify Honest Abe Marketing LLC against claims, damages, losses, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys’ fees) arising from your misuse of the site or violation of these Terms, to the extent permitted by law.

13. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Utah, USA, without regard to conflict-of-law rules, except where mandatory consumer protections in your state of residence apply. Courts located in Utah shall have exclusive jurisdiction for disputes arising from these Terms or the site, except that you may have the right to bring claims in your local courts where required by law, and either party may seek injunctive relief in any court of competent jurisdiction.

14. Changes and termination

We may update these Terms or modify or discontinue the site at any time. Continued use after changes are posted means you accept the updated Terms, except where applicable law requires otherwise. We may suspend or terminate access for conduct we reasonably believe violates these Terms or creates risk.

15. Miscellaneous

If any provision is unenforceable, the rest remains in effect. These Terms, plus the Privacy Policy and Cookie Notice, are the entire agreement between you and us regarding the site. Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver. You may not assign these Terms without our consent; we may assign them in connection with a reorganization or sale of Honest Abe Marketing LLC.
